Two realities, only one option

ETA’s communiqué made public today in NAIZ highlights the “solid bases” of the resolution process, and to demonstrate that they cite, besides the “rationality” of the roadmap contained in the Declaration of Aiete, the desire of the Basque citizenry and the international community. All of this leads them to speak of the “historical opportunity” which has to be responded in these same terms.

However, they also state that peace has powerful enemies, and they say even more by attributing the apparatuses of the State, the intelligence services and other agents the constitution of a group that “manages an agenda against peace.” Surely, this affirmation can also be sustained in data that isn’t publically known, although it’s enough to observe the facts of the oppressive strategy and the daily declarations of those responsible in the government to assure that this complaint is very close to the truth.

This second reality hasn’t caused ETA to make a communiqué in terms of the past. There are no threats of regression, or nothing of the kind. They again affirm their commitment and to not take charge of those who must have the protagonism to “overcome obstacles and keep the process alive.” With their decision ETA commits to their decision of last October and with the roadmap of Aiete.

In the end, to respond positively to the “historic challenge” of peace and to, at the same time, confront those who “set the agenda” against solutions, the option, in both cases, continues to be the same: committing to paths of dialogue and agreement, as well as for the humanization of the conflict.
